Strong Swells Alert – Chile Coast
Nisomar, the data-driven maritime services company, with port agency at its core, is advising that a strong swell alert has been issued for the Chilean coast from 30 January to 2 February.
The alert covers much of the Chilean coast from Chañaral to Golfo de Penas, including Juan Fernandez Island. Strong winds are expected to generate large waves and poor sea conditions, with strong swells coming from the south west into the coastline according to an SHOA warning (Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Chilean Navy).
The conditions are expected to stop normal port operations in unprotected local ports and tanker and Dry Bulk terminals in particular for several days according to final wind strength and direction.
The National Maritime Authority of Chile has also issued an alert to local coastal residents advising them to avoid close proximity to the coastline/beaches.
Nisomar is working with its clients to minimise potential delays and will keep them updated.
