Strong swell affecting the Chilean coast from Arica to Golfo de Penas
Port of Tilbury, UK, 9 August 2017: The Chilean Navy Meterology Department has issued a warning of inclement weather affecting the coastline. Severe winds will generate a strong swell from the southwest and bad weather conditions in the following locations:
Location | Expected |
Golfo de Penas to Golfo de Arauco | AM – Wednesday 9 August |
Golfo de Arauco to Constitucion | PM – Wednesday 9 August |
Constitution to Coquimbo | AM – Thursday 10 August |
Coquimbo to Arica | PM – Thursday 10 August |
These conditions are expected to remain until at least Saturday 12 August for Golfo de Penas to Coquimbo, and Sunday 13 August for Coquimbo to Arica.
The adverse weather conditions will be stronger during high tide and according to local wind conditions. There is the potential for damage to the coastal infrastructure at the southwestern open bays.
Ports operations are expected to be affected, with vessels requested to leave port and remain drifting outside the port limits until the weather improves.
Nisomar is working with its clients to minimise delays and will keep them updated.
